My journey to founding the Fellowship of Living Systems started not with spiritual revelation but with pragmatic problem-solving – a determined belief that our broken food systems could be fixed through innovation and determination. Years of developing strategies, building coalitions, and pushing against institutional barriers taught me something profound: that true change flows not from force but from alignment.

This understanding emerged slowly, through countless attempts to create change that seemed to meet invisible resistance. Each setback and redirect gradually revealed a deeper pattern – that the very energy I was fighting against could become the foundation for transformation when approached differently. Like water flowing around obstacles rather than trying to break through them, I began to see how change actually occurs in living systems.

The Power of Following Flow

My background as both a special operations team leader and a disabled business owner offered unique perspectives on leadership and service. In both roles, I learned that the greatest impact often comes not from being out front, but from creating protected space for others to shine. This lesson took on new meaning as I recognized that my joy and effectiveness came not from spearheading initiatives, but from holding space for collective wisdom to emerge.

This revelation came through an unexpected channel – chickens. While exploring pathways for disabled veterans in agriculture, a simple conversation about backyard chicken keeping opened my eyes to possibilities I hadn’t considered. What began as a practical investigation into low-maintenance farming evolved into a vision of solar-powered mobile chicken tractors built from repurposed RV frames – a project that could bring together community colleges, engineering students, and agricultural innovators in ways that serve multiple needs simultaneously.

This journey is leading toward the creation of Fractal Farms – not just as a physical space, but as a living laboratory where these patterns of alignment can be explored and demonstrated. The vision is emerging of a place where:
